A recent Driver Compensation Study shows that despite a challenging freight market, driver wages are on the rise post-pandemic.
The study, which surveyed over 120 fleets and thousands of drivers, revealed key findings:
- Truckload drivers earned a median of $76,420 in 2023, marking a 10% increase from 2021.
- Linehaul LTL drivers earned a median of $94,525 annually.
- Private carrier drivers saw a 12% wage increase, reaching $95,114 annually.
- Leased independent contractors earned a median of $186,016.
The report also highlights a shift towards tenure bonuses as companies focus on retaining drivers rather than recruitment. Trucking continues to offer strong earning potential for those entering the industry, without the need for a college degree.
